EVKA 3 Transit and Social Center

İzmir / İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi / 35.850 m² / National Competition 2017

Evka 3 Social Center and Transfer Station is located on the northern entry point of İzmir as of project location; at the same time surrounded by important obstacles, a closed area. On the one hand there is Cengizhan Street, on the other side there is a canal and the road to Manisa cuts the connection with the environment to a great extent.
When all these potentials and negative factors are considered, users have overcome these barriers and have become the main idea of access to transportation means, which is the main use function of the area, and in this process the design of the passage from social and commercial functional areas.
The building, consisting of two main mass forms bus, pedestrian and bicycle movements. A street with a slope of 4.5 meters wide and comfortable sheltered bridges on one side and a street passing through the upper terrace building was constructed, which is suitable for pedestrian and bicycle traffic with a slope of 6% from the neighborhoods around Arsan and Ege University. Another street connects to the metro station and the bus terminal in the north-south direction in the ground level, passing through the building and dividing it into two.
The street, which is a transition area between the two masses, forms part of an open area where pedestrians and bicycles can communicate with social and commercial areas and are covered with a transparent shaded cover. The inner street is the most important part of building as a backbone.
The relationship with the metro square is the strongest link between the axis and the entrances and exits. Structural axes and similar curvilinear lines were used to reconstruct a late-coming concrete, which was converted into a park with very different hard and landscape areas, activities.
The top of the subway outlets were arranged with transparent covers, the disturbing building extrusions were made part of the green landscape with vertical gardens.
