Manisa Square and Municipality Building

National Competition 2011

The project, which is presented to the national competition for the city square and the municipal building to be built in Manisa, will be integrated with the green line coming from the skirts of Spil Mountain and aimed to continue the green line of the city from southern to north without interruption.
The geometry of the functions of the building with the main axles that surround the road from the borderlines of the arcs emerged. “Green topographic editing” serves as a complementary architectural element that combines these separated functions as the primary organizer of the competition area. Closed, semi-open, the hierarchical arrangement of open spaces, the transformation of the 3-dimensional helix of green texture into the floor, roof and facade elements supports the fiction.
This new center, intended as a new storage and distribution point for vehicles, is also designed as a storage and distribution area for green spaces. Thus, in this social center where intensive structural needs are sought, the green space and recreational needs that a center needs to be restored have been removed and even turned into a more humane center by removing the foreground. The square that lives in the bazaar complies with the definition of “the square that is living without the bazaar”. A municipal building that lives and integrates with the square has been the focus of design.
The level differences created in the square were planned as a stepped-up approach to the urban landscape by moving the vehicle traffic to the current level and moving the Municipal square to the urban fabric. The created square was also provided with continuity throughout the municipality structure and urban integrity was ensured.
